After a tractor-trailer driver dozed while on the wheel, causing the injury of one person that led to the two-hour overnight partial closure of Interstate 95 at Lower Bucks County. A tractor-trailer driver was dozing off while on the wheel of his tractor that swerved off the road and was hit by another car, as reported by the Pennsylvania State Police.
At about11:45 o’clock Thursday afternoon, operator identified as Bryant Miller, age 42 and resident of Baltimore, Md., was driving his Great 2008 Dane truck northwards along Interstate 95 near the Bridge of Scudder Falls in Lower Makefield when he dozed off causing the truck to veer off the road towards the shoulder. It blocked off right lane of north Interstate 95, police stated.
It so happened that a vehicle driven by Shaikh Riaz, age 57 and resident of Passaic, N.J. was also going northbound on I-95; it hit the left side of the driver. State police clarified that Riaz was not able to see the approaching tractor of Miller as there were no hazard or traffic control devices.
Raiz’s front seat passenger sustained moderate injuries and immediately delivered to the Medical Center of St. Mary in Middletown. No identity of the injured was made public and the passenger’s condition remained unknown.
For more than two hours, all lanes northward bound Interstate 95 between 49 and 51 exits were closed and was reopened early morning of Friday.
It will be recalled that a few days after Christmas, a man from Newark died resulting from critical injuries after his car crashed into a parked tractor-trailer at the latter part of last month, state police stated.
The fatality was identified as Twan Money, age 36, died Tuesday night at Hospital Christiana from life threatening injuries after the Dec. 27 mishap at New Castle.
Money was operating his car going south on Interstate 95 in the vicinity of the interchange of Del. 141 when for unknown reason, he accelerated his car and made an abrupt change of lane from the left center lane to the left shoulder. The sudden change made the vehicle collide with the right rear corner of the tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder. His car went spinning right into the center lane,
Rodney L. Scott, age 48 and resident of Baltimore who was driving the tractor-trailer was not injured. He told police trooper that ran out of gas along the interstate. He parked his vehicle on the shoulder and was asleep inside in the cab’s area while waiting for someone to bring him fuel.
Delaware State Police Troopers from the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program inspected the tractor-trailer of Scott and discovered numerous safety and registration violations. But so far, no charges were filed against him in connection with the crash.
Collision Reconstruction Unit of the state police are continuing their investigation of the crash.
